Join a Minecraft serveron Switch
On Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, Minecraft has no "Add Server" button. You can still join any Bedrock server: here are the three methods that work, using PaffMC as the example (play.paffmc.net, port 19132).
Why there is no "Add Server" button
On Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, the Servers tab of Minecraft only lists the partner servers picked by Mojang. That is true for every external server, not just PaffMC. Phones and PCs do have the button, which is why the three methods below go either through a friend or through a small network detour.
Before you start
- Minecraft (Bedrock Edition, from the Nintendo eShop), a free Microsoft account linked to the game and a Nintendo Switch Online membership to play online.
- Minecraft up to date: the server accepts version 1.26.50. Update the game from the console store.
- The on-screen keyboard on Switch is slow: have the IP address and port ready before you start, you only type them once.
Method 1: join a friend who is already on the server
The easiest one if you have a friend playing on a phone or a PC.
- Your friend adds the server on their phone or PC (address play.paffmc.net, port 19132) and joins it.
- You need to be friends on your Microsoft (Xbox) accounts: add their gamertag from Minecraft with Add Friend in the Friends tab.
- On your console, open Play, Friends tab: their game shows up in the joinable friends. Pick it.
Once you have joined once, you do not need them anymore: use method 2 or 3 to come back on your own.
Method 2: a relay app on your phone
Free apps such as BedrockTogether (Android and iOS) make a server show up as a local network game on the console.
- Put the phone and the console on the same router (same Wi-Fi).
- In the app, enter the address play.paffmc.net and the port 19132, then start it.
- On the console, open Minecraft, Friends tab: the server appears in the LAN games. It can take a minute.
- Keep the app open until you are connected.
These apps are not related to PaffMC or Mojang, and some of them show ads.
Method 3: change the console DNS (BedrockConnect)
BedrockConnect is an open-source project: with its DNS, opening a partner server shows a list where you can type any address instead. You do not need anyone and it stays set.
Switch and Switch 2
System Settings, Internet, Internet Settings, your network, Change Settings, DNS Settings: Manual. Enter the primary and secondary DNS, then Save.
- In the DNS settings above, set the primary DNS to 104.238.130.180 and the secondary DNS to 8.8.8.8.
- Open Minecraft, Servers tab, and join any partner server in the list.
- The BedrockConnect menu opens instead: choose Connect to a Server, address 45.158.77.103, port 19132. You can save it to the list for next time.
The DNS applies to the whole console. If another app stops connecting, or if BedrockConnect is down, set the DNS back to Automatic in the same place. Up-to-date addresses are on the project page: github.com/Pugmatt/BedrockConnect.
PaffMC tip
Once you're in, start the tutorial with /parcours: it shows you every mode in a few minutes.
Address play.paffmc.net, port 19132
Problems
Switch: frequently asked questions
Can you play on a Minecraft server on Switch?
Yes. There is no "Add Server" button, but a friend who is already connected, a relay app or the BedrockConnect DNS let you join any Bedrock server, such as PaffMC (play.paffmc.net, port 19132).
The server does not show up in the Friends tab
With the relay app, the phone and the console must be on the same network. Close the app completely, start it again, wait a minute, then reopen the Friends tab. With the friend method, check that you are friends on your Microsoft accounts.
The BedrockConnect menu does not open
Check the DNS you typed, then restart the console. If it still fails, the service may be down: set the DNS back to automatic and use method 1 or 2.
"Outdated client" or "update required"
The server accepts Minecraft Bedrock 1.26.50. Update the game from the console store, then start it again.
Is the server in English?
PaffMC is a French server, but the game text switches to English automatically when your Minecraft is not set to French. You can also type /lang en in game.
Still stuck?
Ask on the Discord with your console and the error message: the staff will help.
