Bedrock PvPsettings

There is no magic setting, but a few badly set options make you lose fights. Here is what to check, and why.

The principle: smoothness first

In a fight, a stuttering picture is worse than a less pretty one. Always start by getting a smooth game, then tune your aim. Option names can change a little between Minecraft versions: we tell you which menu to look in.

Settings > Video

  • Field of view (FOV): wider lets you see an opponent circling you; too wide makes them look small and harder to hit. Somewhere between 70 and 90 suits most players; try and keep the one you aim best with.
  • FOV can be altered by gameplay: turn this off if you have it. Otherwise your zoom moves when you sprint or drink a Speed potion, which throws off your aim.
  • Render distance: duel arenas are small. A short distance frees resources for smoothness, especially on phones.
  • Fancy graphics, clouds, shadows and lighting effects: turn off whatever drops your frame rate.
  • VSync (PC): turning it off reduces the delay between your click and the picture, at the cost of possible screen tearing.

Settings > Controls > Touch

  • Crosshair aiming: if your version lets you aim with a fixed crosshair in the middle instead of tapping where you want to hit, this is the most useful change for mobile PvP.
  • Sensitivity: high enough to turn around with one thumb swipe, low enough not to shake on a close target.
  • Auto jump: turn it off. In a fight it makes you jump at the wrong moment against a block.
  • Button size and position: if customisation is available, move the attack button closer to your thumb or index finger, and move away the buttons you never want to hit by mistake (chat, inventory).

Settings > Controls > Controller

  • Sensitivity: lower it if you overshoot your target on every hit.
  • Stick dead zone, if adjustable: as small as possible without the camera drifting on its own.
  • Invert Y-axis: just a habit, keep the one from your other games.

Settings > Controls > Keyboard and mouse

  • Mouse sensitivity: a full turn in one wrist movement, no more.
  • Key bindings: put potions and apples on keys you can reach without letting go of movement.
  • Your system's mouse acceleration: turned off, your aim stays the same whatever the speed of your movement.

Interface: see what matters

Keep your health bar and hotbar visible. On PaffMC, the server pack installs automatically and shows the combat timer and important messages in the action bar, above your hotbar. If you want to change how blocks or swords look, first read what is allowed with texture packs.

Connection: the forgotten setting

A good ping matters more than any setting. Play on Wi-Fi close to your router or on a cable, stop background downloads, and pick a server close to you: PaffMC is hosted in France, which suits players in Europe and North Africa best.

PaffMC tip

Test each setting in a quick duel on PaffMC before playing ranked: quick duels don't count towards your Elo, so you can experiment without losing anything.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What FOV is best for Minecraft Bedrock PvP?

There is no single value. Between 70 and 90, most players find theirs. Above all, turn off the option that changes your FOV while sprinting.

How do I get a crosshair on Minecraft mobile?

In Settings > Controls > Touch, look for the crosshair aiming option. It is not named the same in every version; update the game if you cannot find it.

Do these settings change on a server?

No, they are game settings. The server only adds its interface pack.
